  • 190 Wednesday 28th October 2026

Hon. Justice Olufunke Anuwe and Hon. Justice Olukayode Arowosegbe of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria are set to lead discussions on key issues relating to employees’ compensation at the 2026 Legal Stakeholders’ Engagement scheduled for Thursday, 29th and Friday, 30th October 2026, in Abuja.

The two-day engagement, organised by the National Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) in collaboration with the National Judicial Institute (NJI), will bring together judicial officers and other legal stakeholders to deliberate on the interpretation, application and enforcement of the Employees’ Compensation Act, 2010.

Justice Olufunke Anuwe will lead the first presentation, titled “Judicial Interpretation of Injury, Employer Liability and Employee Entitlements under the Employees’ Compensation Act, 2010: Doctrinal Boundaries, Scope and Emerging Trends.”

Justice Anuwe's paper will examine the judicial interpretation of injury arising out of and in the course of employment, the principles of causation and scope of employment, as well as employer liability and employee entitlements under the Act.

The presentation will also address the interpretation and application of key provisions of the Employees’ Compensation Act, 2010, while exploring emerging judicial trends and their implications for employers and employees.

Justice Oluwakayode Arowosegbe will deliver the second paper, titled “Standards of Proof, Enforcement of Judgments and Awards under the Employees’ Compensation Act, 2010: Evidentiary Challenges, Compliance and Judicial Strategies.”

Justice Arowsegbe's presentation will focus on the burden and standards of proof in employees’ compensation claims, the admissibility and evaluation of medical and documentary evidence, and the challenges associated with the enforcement of judgments and awards.

The paper will further examine compliance gaps, delays in post-judgment proceedings and judicial strategies for strengthening enforcement mechanisms and improving the efficiency of the employees’ compensation system.

The engagement is expected to provide a platform for knowledge-sharing among judicial officers and other stakeholders, promote a deeper understanding of the Employees’ Compensation Act, 2010, and encourage effective adjudication and enforcement of employees’ compensation claims.

The programme will be held at Johnwood Hotel by Bolton, 6 Sokode Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, and is scheduled to commence at 9:00 a.m.
