Justice Mustapha Akanbi’s Death: An Irreparable Loss ---Justice Adejumo

President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Hon. Justice B. A. Adejumo, OFR has expressed grief over the death of a former President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Mustapha Akanbi who died on Sunday 3rd June 2018 at the age of 85 years.

 

Justice Adejumo in his letter of condolence on the demise of Hon. Justice Mustapha Akanbi, PCA (Rtd.) expressed that the news of the death of His Lordship, Late Honourable Justice Mustapha Akanbi, PCA, (of blessed memory), came to him as a rude shock.

 

His Lordship said, the Late Hon. Justice Mustpha Akanbi, PCA, was a jurist who selflessly served Nigeria and contributed to building the values of discipline and honesty among fellow countrymen, especially in the judiciary. As the Pioneer Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), he was courageous and firm in upholding the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

 

Late Honourable Justice Mustapha Akanbi, PCA, in his lifetime was an epitome of humility, hardwork, honesty, diligence and compassion. His Lorship’s unblemished record throughout his period as Judicial officer is enviable and worthy of emulation by upcoming judicial officers. I am confident to say that His Lordship was a worthy son and a good ambassador of the Akanbi family, whose brilliance and exemplary courage are well spoken of even outside Nigeria. I wish to assure you that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of your grief.

 

Hon. Justice B. A. Adejumo said, “Late Honourable Justice Mustapha Akanbi, PCA would be best remembered for his colossal and immeasurable contribution to the development of the legal system and jurisprudence in Nigeria. I deeply commiserate with your entire family over this great and irreparable loss.

 

“I therefore urge you and the entire family members to take solace in the fact that Late Hon. Justice Mustapha Akanbi was known in his lifetime as a true man of honour, a devout muslim, a role model, a community leader, a colossus and a rare gem who lived a fulfilled life. It is quite comforting that Late Hon. Justice Mustapha Akanbi, PCA impacted positively on the lives of others around him, and thereby left behind legacies worthy of emulation. We will all miss His Lordship. I therefore urge you to find solace in the fact that His Lordship lived an exemplary life and left behind God-fearing children.

 

“Let not your heart be troubled, but be of good courage, finding comfort in the fact that Late Hon. Justice Mustapha Akanbi has departed this sinful world to be with Allah. In consonance with the Islamic faith, God gives and God takes, but there is hope of meeting His Lordship at hereafter.

 

“While praying for the repose of the soul of the deceased, I pray that God will grant you and your entire family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

 

“It is my prayer that the Almighty God will continue to protect you and the entire family.”
